2005 Regatta PicturesPhotos by Warren & Marcia Walker
This year, like we enjoy doing every year right after the filling Thanksgiving holiday, on the last Saturday in November we kick off the Christmas season in Myrtle Beach by photographing and videotaping a celebration unique to our area: The Intracoastal Waterway Regatta, or simply the Christmas Boat Parade as it's called by locals. The regatta was founded by Susie Watson and Poo McLauchlin with the purpose of parading decorated boats on our waterway while parade watchers contribute toys and cash contributions to needy children in our area. Boats of every shape and size, from small 4-man speed boats to commercial shrimp boats and dinner cruise boats, participate in this fun event. ,br>At dusk, the boats start at Tilghman's Point in Little River, South Carolina, and slowly parade south on the Intracoastal Waterway to Doc Holiday's Marina, also called Vereen's Marina. Restaurants, marinas, and private waterway homes have parties along the parade route on the waterway to watch the parade each year; some of which are gathering points for the toys donated to children for the holidays. Following the boat parade each year, Warren coordinates the lights, sound, and music for the All City Christmas Cantata at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church, while Marcia takes still photographs, and they both take part in producing both audio and video digital recordings of the Cantata. ![]() ![]() ![]()
